Owner of Merlotte's Bar & Grill by day, Shape-Shifter by night.
That little shit tried to steal from me! I mean seriously, I buy you dinner and treat you nice- and you try to steal from me! I don't know about that boy, but I know one thing, I will find out what this family is up to. Okay, so after the bird (Tommy) flew out of my window, I was walking around my parking lot when I caught a scent of a shifter. Low and behold- I find the Mickens' van parked in the way back of Merlotte's behind some trees. I woke up my mother and asked her why there were sleepin' in my parking lot. She said something about "not having anywhere to go because they were behind in their rent." I had a feeling that they were visiting me for a different reason. So they can eat my food, and steal from me. I told her about Tommy trying to break into my safe and she just played if off like she had no idea- but on some level I think she did know. And I think that Joe Lee put him up to it...What a wonderful family I got huh?
So, I decided to take Sookie's advice by giving Jessica a job at Merlotte's. Heck, I needed someone to help Arlene out and Jessica would always be available during the night shifts. I taught Jessica how to seat people according to the number of the party, and she was pissed when I told her she couldn't be a waitress. If she was 18, I'd gladly give her a waitressin' job but I don't wanna get my liquor liscense taken away for letting a minor serve alcohol. She is a nice girl and I trust that she will do a good job. Arlene on the other hand- she is an emotional rollercoaster lately. She flipped on me because she wasn't the only redhead at Merlotte's and she didn't want Jessica to take all of her tips. Women.... She apologized to me and told me that she doesn't want people taking advantage of me... whatever that means. I told her that my family wasn't going to be around- and that is when Terry told me that they were barbecuing in my parking lot. I need to fix this problem and fast.
I found Tommy in the woods nearby, and I brought im his clothes. We sat down and talked for a couple of minutes and I reckon that he still doesn't like me- but I'm not giving up just yet. I told him that I have made bad mistakes in my life and I wish that I could fix it but I can't. He is still young, and he can change too. I told him that if he wanted to he could stay with me and he said he can't. He said that every rotten thing he does if for his parents because he can't just leave them. And he couldn't live with the thought that if he abandoned his parents they'd be on the street with out a cent. He said that he'd never be free of them until the day that he dies- and he hates that. We walked back to the van- and my parents were there cooking on the grill just like Terry had said. Joe Lee was so eager to beat on Tommy...and I don't know why. I proposed and idea to them- I told them that I would give them a place to stay until they can get back on their feet and I'd help them out only if they stopped stealing and drinking. I also offered a job to Tommy, and he'd be clearing tables at Merlotte's. Let's see how long this can last...
Until next time,
Sam.
Well, I know one thing that I am never doing again... and that is taking a run through the woods with my kid brother. That little shit tried to KILL me. And why you ask? I couldn't tell you. Here's the break-down. I went for a run with him in the woods, we came to the highway and he barked at me so I could cross, and without my knowledge- there was a speeding truck. That little shit shifted into a bird to get out of the way, and I ran off the street and unshifted. So, after he took off, I sat there on the side of the road to compose myself and thought "what the hell is wrong with this kid?" I got up, got my clothes and headed back to the Mickens' residence.
I slammed open that door, and I was extremely pissed off. I don't know what was worse though: Tommy tryin' to kill me, or Joe Lee itchin' around in his dirty undies...Anyways, Joe Lee told me that Tommy said that I took off, but I'm not the kind that skips out on his own blood kin. After hearing that, Joe Lee went to tell Melinda that I was back and I had some words with Tommy. He says that he doesn't appreciate me comin' around to meet my family. And all I really wanna know is why he hates me so much and is so eager to get rid of me any way that he can...Well, out come my mom happy as hell that I am back. She's thinkin' that I came back to spend the night, when I only came back to say goodnight. I told her that I didn't want to intrude more than I already have and I'm going back to Bon Temps.Soo, I left them and headed back to town.
When I made it to Bon Temps, I gladly resumed my role in Merlotte's and went back to work. Sookie came in there to see me right when I arrived back in town. I told her that I went all the way to Arkansas to find my real family and I told her that I found out that I have a brother. Sookie and I talked some, and then she told me that she was taking off outta town for a couple days. She had told me that Bill was kidnapped and she was headed to Jackson, Mississippi because she said that she had a lead on him. Some times I worry about that girl, because Bill seems like nothing but trouble. I also had noticed that there was a ring on a certain finger of hers...I guess that she really does love Bill, and she is in it for the long haul... Anyways, later that night my family had made a surprise visit into Merlotte's. I had no idea that they were coming in to town. My mom said that they drove all the way because they wanted to know what my bar looked like and what the town was like. Tommy was running his mouth like he does, and made it seem like I didn't want them- it was just that I wasn't aware that they wanted to visit so soon. Anyways, I told them to stay and I bought them a late lunch. Later on in the evening, the drinks were flowing and Joe Lee was drunk. He was trying to serve alcohol to Tommy (whom is underage) in my bar and I wasn't having that! He started to fight with me and I told him to not break the rules in my bar and he got all riled up and they needed to leave. Melinda was upset because they were creating problems and it embarassed her. They left and things grew quiet around the bar. Things were fine and I closed up. It wasn't until really late that night when I heard the alarm going off in my bedroom. Someone had broken into Merlotte's and they were fiddling around with my safe. So I threw on some clothes, grabbed my gun and went over there as fast as I could. There was no one in the main part of the bar, so I went around back to my office. I heard some papers being shuffled around and saw a bird there on the ground near my safe. I knew it was Tommy, and Tommy knew that I came to investigate what was going on in my bar. So, of course Tommy flew out of the window and his pants and shoes were left in my office. That damn kid I swear.... Who knows that he'll do next.

As we continued talking, Tommy grew very angry. He was pissed off that his whole life his parents didn't tell him that he had a brother. He stormed off and I followed right on after him. Tried starting a conversation with him, but he thought I was mocking him, or making fun of him. He had a really nice old car that he was fixing up. It was a 1958 Plymouth Fury, the same car that was used in the 1983 movie Christine. (based off a book written by Stephen King) He seemed really jealous of me because Melinda and Joe Lee weren't focusing all their attention on him. He said that he needed to go for a run, and cool off. So we ended up shifting, and showed each other our go-to shifts. He had scars all over his body, he said that he got into a lot of fights and after I saw his go-to; I knew why. He was a pitbull. We ran all through the night until he tried to kill me. We were running through the woods, and came to a street where he stopped right in the middle of. Little did I know, there was a truck coming and I almost was hit. Tommy shifted into a bird at the last minute and flew away, leaving me and the huge truck on the road. It was pretty close, and he left me there naked on the side of the road.
What will I do? Where will I go? These questions remain unanswered...until next time,

I called the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce for information on the Mickens, and they said that they would get back to me soon. I looked through the phone book for a phone number, and to my surprise there was one. In my search through the phone book. There was a strange knock at the door. And I didn't know who it could be, because no one knew that I was in Arkansas. Turns out that it was Bill Compton at my door, asking for help. He asked to take a shower, and asked me to join him. He needed a shirt, and I offered him the shirt off my back. Then my phone rang and he told me to not answer it, and he leaned in to kiss me. THEN, I woke up...thank god.
It was Audrey Fischer, from the Magnolia chamber of Commerce that called me with some news about the Mickens. She apologized for waking me up, but I thank her very much for doing so. Audrey said that she didn't have a current address for the Mickens, but she said that they were evicted from their last residence 3 years ago. She also said that they had a son named Tommy, and he worked at Cornejo Tire out on rt. 79. She said that Tommy had been in some trouble for selling used tires that were bald. I thanked her and ended the conversation.
The only thing that I could think of was to head down to Cornejo Tire, and talk to Tommy. I got dressed and headed down there. I saw a young man working on a car and he was changing the tires. Asked him if his name was Tommy, and he was a rude lil' sonofabitch. "congrats bro, you can read." Anyways, I asked him if he was Tommy Mickens and he said no, and that his family name was Harvin.... he said that he wasn't Melinda and Joe Lee's boy. Said that Tommy Mickens, the one I was looking for, quit about 6-7 months ago. Tommy said that the kid was a piece of shit. I could just chuckle about the remark. So, I kinda tested him and said that I heard that all the Mickens we're pieces of shit. He went silent and that is how I knew he wasn't telling the truth. He apologized that he couldn't be more help. I stuck around a little while longer to keep the conversation going, and asked about getting new tires before I left. Said he would give me a good deal...but after what I heard about him, I wouldn't buy tires from him in my life. I told him my name, and I was on my way.
Later that night, I followed Tommy home. He went right on inside, and I got out of my truck to investigate. I went to the mailbox and looked through their bills. And I knew it, and I was right. He was Tommy Mickens and his parents were Melinda and Joe Lee Mickens. Which means: I have found my birth parents. All my life I have wondered who my parents were, and why they left me. Now I can finally ask my questions and hopefully get answers... Until then,-Sam Merlotte
